DeKalb AYSO was founded over 35 years ago to bring soccer to any child who wanted to play soccer. It incorporates players from DeKalb, Malta, Cortland, Waterman and Shabbona. Upper Division teams (which start at age 12) travel to surrounding communities including Amboy, Genoa, Rochelle and Sycamore.
DeKalb AYSO is run and operated exclusively by volunteers, including board members, referees, coaches, team parents, field set-up, etc. Some of these positions require very little time, some are quite involved. Board members, coaches and referees involve the most time and do receive a gift of appreciation for their dedication. Please consider volunteering your time.
All U-12 and under games are played at Kiwanis Park, located at 391 Fairview Avenue in DeKalb, IL. Games are all played on Saturday mornings, with a game schedule distributed before the season begins. Weekly practices are scheduled at the discretion of the coach. The fall season is ten weeks long, with practices starting in early August and games beginning in mid-August, running through the last weekend in October. There are no games on Labor Day weekend.
Upper Division games (U-14 and above) are inter-region games, with some games played at Kiwanis Park and other games played in surrounding communities such as Amboy, Genoa, Rochelle and Sycamore. These games generally start and end a week or two earlier than the regular season and are played on Saturday mornings, with a schedule distributed before the start of the season. There are no games on Labor Day weekend.
In 2013, DeKalb AYSO held its first spring season. While it appears to have been very successful, the Board is still reviewing what worked well and what needed improvement before making decisions on future spring seasons. Early bird registration for the fall season takes place in April and May to allow enough time to formulate teams, schedules, order uniforms, secure coaches and other volunteers, set up insurance and field rental, etc. After that time, registration returns to the regular price and players may need to be placed on a waiting list. Registration includes a team jersey, shorts, socks and supplemental insurance for any injury that occurs during an AYSO-sanctioned event.
